Le monastère de Rila (Bulgare : Рилски манастир) est le plus grand et le plus célèbre monastère orthodoxe oriental en Bulgarie. Il est situé dans la vallée profonde de la Rivière de Rilska, à une élévation de 1.147 m (3.763 pi) au-dessus du niveau de la mer. Il a reçu le nom de son fondateur, l’ermite Ivan de Rila (876 – 946 ap. JC). Fondé au 10ème siècle, ce monastère est considéré comme l’un des monuments culturels, historiques et architecturaux les plus importants pour la Bulgarie et l’Europe du sud-est.

Rila Monastery (Bulgarian: Рилски манастир) is the largest and most famous eastern orthodox monastery in Bulgaria. It is located in the deep valley of the Rilska River, at an elevation of 1,147 m (3,763 ft) above sea level. It is named after its founder, the hermit Ivan of Rila (876 – 946 AD). Founded in the 10th century, this monastery is regarded as one of Bulgaria’s most important cultural, historical and architectural monuments for both Bulgaria and Southeastern Europe.
